Canon Powershot S60 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 2.00 (out of 10)
The Canon PowerShot S60 is a nice camera for those looking for a high resolution camera with a wide-angle lens, full manual controls, and a fairly compact body. Most compact digicams have lenses that start at 35 - 39 mm, but the S60's lens starts at 28 mm -- great for indoor shots.

If the Canon PowerShot S60 bears a family resemblance to its predecessors, it also has some important improvements which make it worthy of closer scrutiny. Just like the S50 reviewed last year, the S60 is a 5 megapixel model. It is however, equipped with a newly formulated lens and benefits from the re-design of some critical controls.

The Canon PowerShot S60 is Canon's replacement for the popular PowerShot S50. The new model is leaner and quicker and boasts longer battery life. The S60 is on the large end of compact (pocketable, if you have roomy pockets) and boxy, but its plain looks belie its rich feature set.

Canon replaces the very popular PowerShot S50 with the S60. You might jump to the logical conclusion that the new model captures 6-megapixel images, but that's not so. The Canon PowerShot S60 is a 5-megapixel camera like its predecessor, but it sports a brand-new lens and offers a more versatile feature set.

The PowerShot S60 is a significant update of last year's best-selling PowerShot S50 model. At the top of Canon's "mid-sized compact" line, the sleek S60 takes last year's design and adds a wide-angle zoom lens (reaching down to 28mm equivalent focal length at its widest zoom setting) to an already superbly crafted camera.........

On May 19th of this year Canon announced the PowerShot S60, the replacement to the fifteen month old PowerShot S50. Despite the '60' in its name the S60 has the same five megapixel CCD as the S50, this will no doubt be the cause of some confusion for buyers who will assume that it is a six megapixel compact.
